Calgary, Alberta – AltaLink, Alberta’s largest electricity transmission company, had a big challenge this spring with Alberta’s volatile weather. Severe weather damaged transmission lines throughout central and southern Alberta, temporarily disrupting power to Albertans. “I am so proud of our employees and contractors who worked tirelessly for weeks on end to keep the lights on for thousands of Albertans,” said Scott Thon, AltaLink’s President and CEO. “On behalf of all our employees, I want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding given the adversity Mother Nature threw at us. I personally appreciate the support so many Albertans demonstrated to our field employees as they worked in such difficult conditions.” AltaLink remains committed to ensuring Alberta’s supply of electricity is reliable and cost-effective. By consulting with stakeholders, AltaLink is preparing to build new transmission lines that will sustain the reliability of the electricity system and connect all Albertans to more diverse and greener suppliers of electricity. AltaLink, L.P. today reported its financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2010. The Partnership earned net income of $20.3 million for the quarter, which reflects rate base growth due to capital investments in transmission assets, as well as recent regulatory tariff decisions. As a partnership, AltaLink, L.P. reports its net income before income taxes, therefore its results are not directly comparable with net income reported by corporations that recognize income taxes in their financial statements. AltaLink’s full financial results and management’s discussion and analysis can be found on AltaLink’s website at www.altalink.ca or on SEDAR at www.sedar.com. AltaLink, Alberta’s largest transmission provider, is actively working with stakeholders to build more than 40 new transmission projects, responding to the province’s growth and ensuring the transmission system will meet Albertans’ needs today and in the future. Hundreds of kilometres of new, efficient transmission lines will ensure our customers have access to clean, renewable power and the lowest‐priced electricity Alberta has to offer. AltaLink is a proud supporter of Alberta 4‐H and, as a Legacy Builder, is the title sponsor of all regional, district and provincial communications and public speaking programs.
