Central East Transmission Development

Project overview

AltaLink is currently completing public consultation for this project and wants your input to identify the lowest overall impact solution for the project.

The Central East Transmission Development involves reinforcing the transmission system in the Wainwright, Provost and surrounding areas. The transmission system in these areas was built 50 to 60 years ago and the aging system no longer has the capacity to reliably provide electricity to the area. System reinforcements are required to ensure that energy can connect to the electric system and make sure residents, businesses and industrial facilities continue to have a reliable supply of electricity for years to come.

Project details

The proposed project includes:

  • building approximately 70 kilometres of new transmission line
  • rebuilding approximately 205 kilometres of existing transmission line
  • removing approximately 35 kilometres of existing transmission line
