The Government of Alberta designated this project as Critical Transmission Infrastructure. To learn more about Critical Transmission Infrastructure projects, please click here.
AltaLink, the Transmission Facility Owner (TFO), was directed to complete siting and engineering work for this project, consult with stakeholders and eventually submit an application to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for its review.
AltaLink is committed to the participant involvement process as a key input to help identify the best route for this proposed project.
AltaLink’s participant involvement process involved two stages of consultation to gather input from stakeholders. AltaLink gathers input from stakeholders and responds to questions and concerns through newsletters, open houses, information centres, one-on-one meetings, phone calls and electronic communication.

AltaLink will submit a Facilities Application to the AUC for its review. The Facilities Application will describe our plans to meet the technical requirements and provides information on routing, environment, costs, project components and schedules and our public consultation program.
In our application, we will summarize stakeholder input received, any commitments made and the manner in which the input received from stakeholders has been addressed. We plan to submit our application in early 2011.

AltaLink - Western Alberta Transmission LineThe AUC is a quasi-judicial agency that is responsible to ensure that the delivery of Alberta’s utility services take place in a manner that is fair, responsible and in the public interest.
The AUC reviews Facilities Applications submitted by AltaLink. Once a Facilities Application is received and deemed complete by the AUC, a Notice of Application is issued. The AUC may hold a written or oral hearing to review evidence from interveners before approving, approving with conditions or denying a Facilities Application.
We are available to gather any further input you have before and after we file our application. Please contact us directly at the information above to provide your input.
You can also participate in the AUC process - please visit www.auc.ab.ca to learn more about how you can become involved.
