Heartland Substation and Transmission Line Development

Project overview

The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approved the Heartland Transmission Project and the associated Heartland Substation and Transmission Line Development on November 1, 2011. Construction activities are planned from December 2011 to summer 2013. Thank you for participating in our consultation process – your input is important to us.  

The Heartland Substation and Transmission Line Development is needed to accommodate the Heartland Transmission Project. More information about the Heartland Transmission Project can be found at www.heartlandtransmission.ca

Project details

The project includes:

  • a new 500 kV/240 kV substation, named Heartland 12S, as well as a telecommunications tower within the substation site
  • approximately 22 kilometres of new 240 kV transmission line from the new substation to an existing transmission line, named 942L/943L

Anticipated project schedule

Although we attempt to follow the anticipated project schedule it is subject to change. We will continue to provide you with updated schedule information as the project progresses.
