  • a new substation
  • approximately 12 kilometres of new transmission line
  • a new telecommunications tower within the proposed substation site

Amelia Substation Upgrade

AltaLink is proposing to upgrade the existing Amelia Substation located in the Fort Saskatchewan area to help meet the electricity demands of industrial facilities in the area. This project involves:

  • adding new equipment
  • adding two switchgear buildings
  • converting approximately one kilometre of single circuit transmission line into a double circuit line
  • expanding the substation fenceline

Athabasca Area Telecommunications Upgrade  AltaLink is proposing to upgrade its telecommunications system in the Athabasca area to maintain the saftey and reliability of the electric system. This project includes:
  • upgrading telecommunications towers at eight existing sites
  • building a new telecommunications tower at the existing Waupisoo Substation
  • building two new telecommunications sites

Bannerman Substation and Transmission Line Project AltaLink is proposing to upgrade its transmission system in the Redwater area to connect the North West Sturgeon Refinery to the electric system. This project includes:
  • a new substation
  • a new telecommunications tower
  • approximately five kilometres of new transmission line

AltaLink is proposing to upgrade its transmission system in the Blackie area to meet growing demand and connect wind generated power to the electric grid. The Blackie Area 138 kV Line Re-configuration includes:

  • removing a single circuit 138 kV transmission line and replacing it with a new double circuit 138 kV transmission line
  • upgrading two substations

  • a new telecommunications tower
  • approximately 12-14 kilometres of new transmission line
