Fidler Substation and Transmission Line

In December 2011, the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) determined that the Alberta Electric System Operator's (AESO) Need Identification Document for the Southern Alberta Transmission Reinforcement (SATR) did not provide approval for the Fidler interconnection or the Fidler to Chapel Rock transmission line.

In light of this decision, AltaLink is suspending work on these projects until we receive further direction on how to proceed from the AESO.

The routes in this map represent potential route options. If the project is approved, only one line will be built.

Project overview

The Fidler Substation and Transmission Line is part of an area transmission development called the Southern Alberta Transmission Reinforcement (SATR). This reinforcement includes new transmission lines and upgrades to the electric system in southern Alberta. These projects will connect new wind-generated power to Alberta’s electric system and strengthen the transmission system in the area.

Project details

The proposed project includes:

  • building a new substation northeast of the Town of Pincher Creek
  • building approximately 15 kilometres of new transmission line
  • reconfiguring and removing some sections of existing transmission lines in the area

We will continue to provide you with updated schedule information as the project progresses.
