• Southern Alberta Transmission Reinforcement

Bowmanton to Whitla Transmission Project

Project overview

The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approved the project in June 2011. Construction activities are planned from summer 2011 to winter 2014. Thank you for participating in our consultation process - your input is important to us.

The Bowmanton to Whitla Transmission Project (formerly known as the East Medicine Hat to Whitla Project) is part of an area transmission development called the Southern Alberta Transmission Reinforcement (SATR). This reinforcement includes new transmission lines and upgrades to the electric system in southern Alberta. These projects will connect new wind-generated power to Alberta's electric system and strengthen the transmission system in the area.

Project details

The project includes:

  • a new transmission line from the proposed Bowmanton Substation east of Medicine Hat to south of Whitla
  • a new substation located south of Whitla (Whitla Substation)
