AltaLink is currently completing public consultation for this project and wants your input. The Bardo Telecommunications Upgrade project is part of the South and West of Edmonton Area Transmission Development. This area has grown significantly in recent years and the demand for electricity has increased. Transmission system reinforcements are required to make sure residents, businesses and industry continue to have a reliable supply of electricity for years to come. All work on this project will take place on within the existing substation fenced area and no new land is required.
To accommodate the Saunders Lake Substation and Transmission Lines Porject and teh Cooking Lake 138 kV Transmission Line and Substation Upgrade Project of the South and West of Edmonton Transmission Development, we are proposing to build a new telecommunications tower at AltaLink's existing Bardo 197S Substation. This tower will provide a radio link between Bardo 197S Substation and the Camrose 9285R Radio tower. The proposed new telecommunications tower:
- will be approximately 60 metres (196 feet) tall
- will have a triangular base of approximately one metre (three feet)
- may be painted and have aircraft lighting to comply with Transport Canada's requirement
- will be located in the north east corner of the substation site
The proposed work for this project will be done within the existing Bardo Substation fence line on AltaLink owned land- no additional land is required.
