Meet the 2010 Recipients!
Treaty 6 – Elmer Jules Half
Elmer Jules Half is currently enrolled at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in the Petroleum Engineering Technology program. Elmer is from the Whitefish Lake Nation. He is committed to the learning process, is dedicated to helping others learn and acts as a peer-tutor and is highly involved in his community.
Treaty 7 – Shey Eagle Bear
Shey Eagle Bear is in his first year of Medicine at the University of Alberta after completing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge. Shey is from the Kainai Nation and hopes to specialize in orthopedic surgery. Shey is passionate about science and has worked with the Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School encouraging participation in the school science fair and is dedicated to supporting students pursue careers in the sciences.
Treaty 8 – Cherie Willier
Cherie Willier is a Grande Prairie Regional College student from the Sucker Creek First Nation. Cherie is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is currently in her second year of the program. Her aspirations upon graduating include returning to the Sucker Creek community to act as a community nurse. There is a need for Aboriginal nurses and Cherie hopes to help care for the community in which she and her family are rooted.
Métis – Alisa Sanregret
Alisa Sanregret is a second-year Métis student in the Medicine program at the University of Alberta. She is currently on the executive committee of the SHINE clinic, a student-run health clinic that provides free services to inner-city youth, leading the development and fundraising. Alisa has an interest in pediatrics and hopes to provide health service to under-served communities. Alisa is also interested in the treatment and prevention of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD).
