Meet the 2013 Recipients!
Treaty 6 – Ashley Dawn Dennehy
Ashley Dawn Dennehy is from the Samson Cree Nation, in Maskwacis. She is currently attending the University of Calgary and working toward a bachelor of arts degree, majoring in development studies. Ashley has lived and volunteered in many countries but plans to return to the Samson Community as a development practitioner and an environmental consultant. Ashley aspires to own her own non-profit to empower indigenous women.
Treaty 7 – Jace Eagle Bear
Jace Eagle Bear is a member of the Blood Tribe Reserve in southern Alberta. He is a fourth-year student at the University of Calgary completing a degree in music performance with a major in both the oboe and the erhu. Jace would like to purse a master's degree in music performance and someday hopes to become a professional musician and perform internationally.
Treaty 8 – Mackenzie Brown
Mackenzie Brown is a member of the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. She is an active community member participating in cultural workshops and performances. Mackenzie is attending the University of Alberta in her firstyear of studies in the science program and hopes to pursue a career in zoology.
Métis – Alicia Mae Howse
Alicia Mae Howse is a member of the Métis Nation. She is a second-year student attending Athabasca University in the Post-LPN bachelor of nursing degree program. Alicia is currently working as a licensed practical nurse in the Edmonton area and plans on completing her education and becoming a nurse practitioner.
