AltaLink began public consultation for this project in November 2009. We suspended work in December 2011 and waited for further direction from the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO). We received direction from the AESO to resume work on the project and have filed our facilities application with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). The AUC approved this project for construction on May 10, 2013.
The proposed project includes:
- building a new substation northeast of the Town of Pincher Creek
- building approximately five to nine kilometres of new 240 kV transmission line
- reconfiguring and removing some sections of existing transmission lines in the area
