Fire & Power Lines
Large fires burning adjacent to or under high voltage transmission lines have the potential to:
- Create electrical arcs (known as “flashovers”) that can endanger people, animals, and objects;
- Damage or destroy the wires, insulators, and supports of the transmission line;
- Interrupt electricity supply to households and businesses.
If you see a fire burning underneath or near a transmission line, please call 9-1-1. In addition, all fires should be reported as soon as possible to AltaLink by calling 1-866-667-3400 (24 hours a day), even if you are unsure of what risk they pose.
