To connect Neoen Renewables Canada Inc.’s (NRCI)’s project to the grid, AltaLink is proposing changes to its transmission system in one of two potential locations, approximately five kilometres west of the Hamlet of Granum.
To connect NRCI’s proposed project to the grid, AltaLink is proposing the following:
- constructing a new 240 kilovolt (kV) switching station, called Willow Creek
1132S - installing a new 240 kV transmission line to connect the new switching station to an existing transmission line in the area
- installing new underground fibre optic cable
- installing three 240 kV circuit breakers at the new switching station
- modifying two existing structures
AltaLink is proposing one of two potential location options to accommodate the proposed connection:
- Alternative 1 (north option): Will require approximately 500 metres of transmission line and 195 metres of underground fibre optic cable
- Alternative 2 (south option): Will require approximately 850 metres of transmission line and 115 metres of underground fibre optic cable
