Paul Lee
Senior Vice President, Corporate Services and Projects
Paul started his career at AltaLink in 2004, and has held a variety of positions in operations, internal audit and customer service.
As the HVDC Operations Manager, Paul led the operational integration of AltaLink’s Western Alberta Transmission Line (WATL), Alberta’s first high voltage direct current line. In 2019, Paul led the development and implementation of AltaLink’s Wildfire Mitigation program, which was the first program of its kind to be approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission in Alberta. Paul has also worked at TransAlta, providing leadership in developing TransAlta’s enterprise risk management framework.
Paul’s recent positions at AltaLink include Vice President, Projects, Vice President, System Operations and Director, Customer Services. Paul also currently serves on the board of directors for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the Werklund Centre. Mr. Lee is a registered Professional Engineer with APEGA and has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta, as well as an MBA from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
Jennifer McFadyen
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Jennifer brings over 25 years of experience in human resources and external affairs in energy, utilities, manufacturing and consulting.
Prior to joining AltaLink, Jennifer was the Vice President, Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations and Vice President, Human Resources for a North American energy infrastructure company.
In her role, Jennifer is responsible for creating a healthy organization that will enable AltaLink’s future success. Under her leadership, the HR team proactively identifies people challenges and anticipates organizational needs to establish an HR strategy that supports achievement of business goals and priorities that are aligned with business and regulatory requirements. Overlaying all of that is a passion for continuous improvement to create a performance-driven culture and best in class employee experience.
Jennifer has a Bachelor of Management degree, along with certifications in Human Resources, Compensation and Strategic workforce planning.
Jennifer also serves as the Vice Chair of the Board for the Canadian Immigrant Women’s Association, an agency that focuses on the unique needs of immigrant and refugee women, and their families.
Mike Bartel
Vice President, Business Transformation
With over 36 years of experience in the energy industry, Mike has held leadership roles in many aspects of both power transmission and generation in Alberta, most recently as Vice President, Business Transformation at AltaLink.
Mike started his career with TransAlta and progressed through a variety of roles with increasing accountabilities over his 18 years there. As Vice President & Chief Engineer, Mike was responsible for engineering activities and technical decision making for TransAlta’s power generation fleet of thermal, gas, wind and hydro assets.
Following TransAlta, Mike joined AltaLink as Vice President, Asset Management, and in 2020 took on the expanded role of Vice President, Operations where he applied his experience to lead the asset management, engineering, operations and maintenance areas.
Mike was elected and held the role of President of CIGRE Canada, a non-profit industry association, from 2014-2022 and remains an active executive member. Additionally, Mike served on the board of the North American Transmission Forum from 2018-2025, including being Chair from 2021-2022. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Calgary. He has also completed an Executive MBA and is a registered Professional Engineer in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
