The transmission line rebuild is scheduled from January to June 2025. We will continue to provide you with updated schedule information and project updates as the project progresses.
Project background
Built in 1956, AltaLink’s existing 150L transmission line has reached the end of its lifecycle and will be rebuilt to ensure a reliable supply of power is available for years to come. The line runs from the west end of Calgary to the Stoney Nakoda Reserve in Rocky View County.
The rebuild includes:
- rebuilding 27 kilometres of 138 kilovolt transmission line
- replacing the existing wooden H-frame structures with primarily steel monople structures. Wood structures may be used in certain locations.
- removing and salvaging the existing transmission line
Construction update – May 2025
From May 5 to 9 and May 12 to 13, there will be speed reductions in both directions on Highway 1, approximately three kilometres east of Highway 22 and three kilometres west of Range Road 33. The speed limit will be reduced to 80 km/h to accommodate construction work on the 150L Transmission Line Rebuild.
What you can expect
You may hear or see construction crews, specialized line equipment and vehicles in the area. Traffic control measures and signage will be in place to ensure public safety.
The work will be completed during daylight hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. There will be no traffic disruptions on the weekend.
